تَاللّٰهِ لَقَدْ اَرْسَلْنَآ اِلٰٓى اُمَمٍ مِّنْ قَبْلِكَ فَزَيَّنَ لَهُمُ الشَّيْطٰنُ اَعْمَالَهُمْ فَهُوَ وَلِيُّهُمُ الْيَوْمَ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ اَلِيْمٌ
Terjemahan Indonesia:
Demi Allah, sungguh Kami telah mengutus (rasul-rasul) kepada umat-umat sebelum engkau (Muhammad), tetapi setan menjadikan terasa indah bagi mereka perbuatan mereka (yang buruk), sehingga dia (setan) menjadi pemimpin mereka pada hari ini dan mereka akan mendapat azab yang sangat pedih.
English Translation:
By Allah, We did certainly send [messengers] to nations before you, but Satan made their deeds attractive to them. And he is the disbelievers' ally today [as well], and they will have a painful punishment.

IndonesiaDalam ayat ini Allah swt bersumpah dengan nama-Nya sendiri bahwa Dia sungguh telah mengutus banyak rasul kepada umat-umat sebelum Nabi Muhammad. Para rasul itu mengajak mereka untuk beriman dan beribadah kepada Allah swt. Akan tetapi, umat-umat itu telah tertipu oleh tipu daya setan sehingga mereka menyangka perbuatan-perbuatan mereka baik, padahal sebetulnya perbuatan jahat. Setan itulah akhirnya yang menjadi teman mereka, dan akan menemani mereka masuk ke dalam neraka.

EnglishBy God We verily sent to communities before you messengers. But Satan adorned for them their deeds their evil deeds so that they considered them to be good deeds and therefore they denied the messengers. So he is their patron the guardian of their affairs today that is now in this world and for them there will be a painful chastisement in the Hereafter. It is also said that by al-yawm ‘today’ is meant the Day of Resurrection narrating the events as though they are taking place now. In other words they have no guardian other than him in other words Satan and as he is incapable of helping himself how could he possibly help them?
